Charles Leclerc trimmed nearly two seconds off Kimi Antonelli’s winning margin on the final lap of the US Grand Prix, meaning he fell fractionally short of beating the Italian’s season’s best 13.7 seconds gap over Oscar Piastri in Japan earlier this year. That’s huge praise from his boss and whilst the drive was far less eye catching than some of his other wins this season, you can see why Toto was so impressed.

Key Developments in PALMER: Was Antonelli’s Austin

Kimi nailed Qualifying to start from a pole Mercedes themselves thought a long shot.
